Unique experiences for all

Festroia is a non-profit organization based in Setúbal, Portugal.

It was founded in 1987 to, among other initiatives, promote film activities in a similar way to that which enabled its founders to organize, in 1985 and 1986, the first two editions of the Festroia - International Film Festival. Until 1994, the festival took place in Tróia, migrating to Setúbal in 1995, where it was held until its 30th and last edition, in 2014.

Festroia aimed to promote cinema not known in Portugal, in a choice dictated by cultural diversity and the aesthetic quality of the works, including four competitive sections and several exhibitions. In 2007, it became the first international film festival in the world to offset its carbon footprint.

Since 2000, the Association has been responsible for the programming of Cinema Charlot, in Setúbal, where some 1200 films have been screened, attracting more than 350 thousand filmgoers. This theatre is part of the Europa Cinemas network since 2010, privileging the exhibition of films from European countries and organizing activities aimed at young audiences.

In 2019, an Association became a partner of the Setúbal City Council in the organization of the Film Fest - Live Music Festival (https://www.festivalfilmfest.com/), and is currently preparing new initiatives, among which is the remodelling of its online presence.
